What is CoQ10?
Discovered in 1957, Coenzyme Q10 in its ubiquinone form is an essential component of the process of ATP energy generation. It is an essential antioxidant that protects your cells against oxidative stress, the world’s biggest killer.
CoQ10 is sold as a nutritional supplement, as an ingredient in skin care products, and, in Europe, as a medicinal product that plays an important role as an adjuvant therapy for heart failure patients.
In 1978, Dr. Peter Mitchell won the Nobel Prize in chemistry for his explanation of biological energy transfer and the importance of Coenzyme Q10 to the process.
Since then, numerous clinical trials have documented the absorption, bioavailability, safety, and efficacy of CoQ10 supplementation in heart conditions, STATIN induced muscle pain and weakness, migraines, and physical performance.
CoQ10 and Aging
As we get enter our middle years, our indigenous CoQ10 production starts to slow down which is why it is necessary to supplement. Biological aging is associated with low plasma CoQ10 concentrations with the resulting worsening of mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and systemic inflammation.
CoQ10 supplementation has a positive effect on mitochondrial deficiency syndrome and many of the signs of aging. The bio-energetic and antioxidant effects of CoQ10 reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in elderly individuals.
Here are just some of the amazing benefits of CoQ10:
*Protects again neurodegeneration.
* Protects against heart disease
* Helps with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia
* Helps with diabetes
* Inproves exercise performance and recovery
* Can slow down macular degeneration
* Helps promote male fertility and semen quality
* Helps to activate immune system cells
* Protects liver cells and promotes healthy liver function
* Has been shown to reduce the frequency and duration of migraines
* Scientifically proven to reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia during pregnancy.
N.B. Statins significantly reduce your livers ability to produce CoQ10. In Germany, everyone who is prescribed a statin is provided with CoQ10 as a matter of course.
